One of Europe’s largest infrastructure construction sites experienced significant belt conveyor carryback issues on a critical material handling system. The 1200 mm wide conveyor running at 3.2 m/s was fitted with competitor belt cleaners that consistently failed to deliver effective cleaning performance. As a result, persistent carryback accumulated along the return belt.The root cause was identified as inefficient cleaning from the previously installed system, which was unable to maintain consistent belt contact and cleaning effectiveness. Despite repeated attempts to resolve the issue using the existing supplier’s equipment, the problem remained unresolved, requiring a more reliable and proven solution.
In collaboration with our partner, Iméco, we conducted a thorough evaluation of the conveyor system and recommended a proven belt cleaning configuration based on successful results achieved in similar installations. The proposed solution comprised a CleanScrape® primary belt cleaner together with a SQC2™ Reduced Mini Cleaner. This configuration was selected for its key advantages: CleanScrape® technology delivers consistent and uniform cleaning across the full width of the belt, including the edges, while its low-maintenance design minimizes the need for frequent adjustments. In addition, the SQC2™ Reduced Mini Cleaner secondary cleaner effectively removes any remaining fines, ensuring optimal belt cleanliness.
Within six months of installation, the system delivered consistent and reliable performance, with the conveyor belt remaining clean throughout operation. The elimination of carryback significantly reduced the need for manual cleaning and ongoing maintenance, improving overall operational efficiency. The improved belt cleanliness also contributed to better housekeeping and safer working conditions on site. The solution has proven to be stable and low-maintenance, maintaining performance without frequent adjustments. The customer has expressed satisfaction with the results, confirming that the solution successfully resolved the issue and delivered lasting improvement.
